  • Flow Analysis Tools

by: Dr. C. Wels and L. Findlater

Many groundwater flow problems can be solved using analytical solutions to standard flow equations with simplified geometries. For the most common analytical solutions, we have created interactive "Flow Analysis Tools" which provide a visual interface for parameter input and output.

The following Flow Analysis Tools are currently available:

Steady-State Flow in a Confined Aquifer

  • Darcy Equation for Steady-State Flow in a Confined Aquifer

  • Thiem Equation for Radial Flow to a Well (1 monitoring well)

  • Thiem Equation for Radial Flow to a Well (2 monitoring wells)

Steady-State Flow in an Unconfined Aquifer

  • Dupuit-Thiem Equation for Radial Flow to a Well (1 monitoring well)

  • Dupuit-Thiem Equation for Radial Flow to a Well (2 monitoring wells)

  • Dupuit-Thiem Equation for Horizontal Flow to a Trench (no recharge)

  • Dupuit-Thiem Equation for Horizontal Flow to a Trench (with recharge)

Transient Flow in a Confined Aquifer

  • Cooper-Jacob Equation for Transient Flow to a Well

For more information on how to use the Flow Analysis Tools, please contact Christoph Wels. We also welcome any suggestions for new flow analysis tools.
