Lupin Mine

Project Description:

The Lupin Mine is located on the west shore of Contwoyto Lake approximately 90 km south of the Artic Circle, 285 km southeast of Kugluktuk, Nunavut and approximately 400 km northeast of Yellowknife, N.W.T. The mine, an iron formation hosted gold mine, is operated by Echo Bay Mines Ltd, which produces gold at a production rate of up to 2,300 tpd. Tailings produced in the mill are stored within a Tailings Containment Area located approximately six kilometers south of the Lupin mine, currently covering an area of about 361 hectares. The area is within the tundra zone of the Canadian Shield and is one of continuous permafrost.

  • Review and assessment of the acid rock drainage potential of the Lupin tailings and the proposed closure measures for these tailings
