Welcome to Acid Rock Drainage at Enviromine. This site was created by Chris Mills, M.Sc., P.Eng. , Consulting Environmental & Mineral Process Engineer, and by Dr. Andy Robertson, P.Eng., President, and Shannon Shaw, M.Sc., Geochemist, Robertson Geoconsultants Inc. Sadly, Chris has since passed away, unexpectedly. A memorial page has been created in his memory, and this web site will be maintained and developed in his honour.
This site is currently maintained by Shannon Shaw and Bruce Downing, M.Sc., P.Geo., Senior Geologist, Gamah International Ltd., Vancouver. The purpose of the site is to bring to you information on the technical aspects of Acid Rock Drainage (ARD) in a readily accessible format. Each page on the site will be dedicated to an individual aspect of ARD and will point the reader to appropriate reference material. It is our goal to develop these pages into an encyclopedia of ARD, and we shall add pages as time permits. At the present time you may choose from:
ACID ROCK DRAINAGE FUNDAMENTALS
An Introduction to Acid Rock Drainage
Trace Element Geochemistry in Acid Rock Drainage
ACID ROCK DRAINAGE PREDICTION
Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) in ARD Testwork
ARD Sampling and Sample Preparation
Petrology & Mineralogy in ARD Prediction
Acid-Base Accounting (ABA) Test Procedures
Metal Leaching Test Procedures

We decided to launch Acid Rock Drainage at Enviromine in May of 1997. The Fourth International Conference on Acid Rock Drainage took place here in Vancouver from May 31st to June 6th in 1997, the Mine Environment Neutral Drainage (MEND) program in Canada reduced its scope to technology transfer in 1997, and both our Australian and Unites States colleagues (Acid Drainage Technology Initiative or ADTI) are engaged in the development of national ARD programs. We therefore hope that Acid Rock Drainage at Enviromine will play an important, and much-needed, role in the continuing dissemination of information on ARD and related subjects.
